I’m not big on getting involved with the media’s quest for covering everything Tiger, but I thought this ad from Nike say’s something about the smarts Nike has for marketing.  First off, all his other sponsors that dropped him are probably not very excited about that decision now since it looks like he’s going to come back with something to prove- and it seems like people are considering giving him another chance.  Nike is in a prime location to connect its brand with the real world.  I think its very human to consider his imperfection,  and though some might call it blatant extortion… I personally think its just brilliant marketing.

Hulu’s Secret Plan

Head over to Hulu on April 1, select a video and you’ll see an option to view content in 3D. You won’t need those special glasses you snuck out of last night’s Alice in Wonderland screening last night, but you will go through the looking glass to see the horrible truth about Hulu and television itself. It turns out there is scientific proof that TV really will rot your brain, and the entertainment industry is filled with aliens (of course we already knew that).

Everybody’s an administrator over at social news filtering site Reddit this April Fools’ Day. Once you’ve logged in just turn your admin powers on (look to the right side of the screen next to your username), and enjoy your unchecked power. You can edit headlines, ban other users by clicking on the ‘A’ next to their names, and vote up stories an infinite number of times. Something tells me chaos is going to reign supreme on Reddit today. One thing that’s not so funny is that this practical joke appears to publicly reveal specific users’ IP addresses, creating a significant breach of privacy. I hope those IP addresses are fake, but it’s hard to tell for sure.

Bieber or Die

Fans of the viral video site Funny or Die will be in for a shock this morning, as their favorite comedy site has caught Bieber fever. The entire site is designed around the teen pop sensation Justin Bieber, after the singer bought up the site as a tribute to himself. As Bieber says in a video explaining the switch, “anything that’s not Bieber dies.”

Google Goes Topeka

You’ve already heard about Topeka, Kansas renaming itself Google as part of a stunt to become part ofGoogle’s municipal broadband project. Google has decided to repay that tribute by renaming the company Topeka. “We had a fair amount of brand equity tied up in our old name,” Topeka explained in a company blog post, “But the more we surfed around (the former) Topeka’s municipal website, the more kinship we felt with this fine city at the edge of the Great Plains.” Topeka has even offered new phrases for the company name like “Before our blind date I Topeka’d him.”

Hadron II

The Independent is reporting on a plan to bring a second Hadron Collider to London, England. But instead of building new underground tunnels to smash particles in London, the plan calls to turn the Circle Line of London’s subway system into a particle accelerator. However, health and safety advisers are concerned about a “mini black hole being created at Westminster [home to the British government] when the two proton beams collide to recreate the conditions of the Big Bang.” The original Hadron Collider is located near Geneva, Switzerland, and scientists hope to use the machine to recreate the conditions of the Big Bang that gave birth to our universe. Device and chip maker Qualcomm is getting into the April Fools’ spirit by confronting reports about people being “savagely attacked by butterflies.” The problem is reportedly related to Qualcomm’s prototype Mirasol displays that “mimic the way butterfly’s wings reflect light” to make mobile displays more energy efficient. I had the pleasure of seeing Michael Bublé on March 24th (2010).  Full disclosure here, I’m a HUGE Bublé fan, I remember the first time I heard one of his songs.  It was after seeing a movie several years ago my Dad took me to the book store, I was walking around and the song “Fever” came on.  I found the guy working in the music section and asked him who it was, I can’t recall if I bought the CD on the spot, but none the less I was introduced to ‘the great american songbook‘ as done by Bublé.  I’ve been a big fan ever since, and I had the pleasure of seeing him in 2006 at the Taft theater in downtown Cincinnati.  I must say though, that this time really raised the bar- I don’t think I’ve ever been so amerced in a performance in my life.

Highlights

1. Michael Jackson Cover

This clip was from NYC but you get the idea.  It was pretty interesting to find out that he was so influenced by Michael Jackson, I don’t think I ever would have guessed it!  Really spoke to his humor too, not going to lie he has the crowed up in roars with laughter.

2. Intro to ‘Home’

This clip was actually taken at the concert I was at, it really took the crowed by surprise when he broke out into those other songs.  Its nice to see an artist admit that he’s influenced by others.

3. The End of the Show

Talk about an emotional end to a concert, at the end of the show he took out his ear pieces and got rid of the microphone and preceded to sing the end of the song acapella. I was a good 200 yards away from him, and I could hear him sing.  I’ve never seen 15,000 people so enthralled in shared experience, it was a very unique experience.

I have to say I really must recommend this show to everyone.  You may not be a fan of his style of music, but the spectacle is worth it.  The way he interacted with the crowed was something I’ve never experienced at a concert before.  He was humble too, at least 3 times he acknowledge how pricey the tickets were, and how grateful  he was for our choosing to use it to see him.  He introduced each member of the band like they we’re as big as a star as him, and really made a strong connection that way I think.  We’re all in this together I think his message was, and I’m here to lead the way.

This is pretty much on all day, every day.  I don’t think anyone who’s started a gmail account has even considered going back to Yahoo Mail or, god forbid, Hotmail.  I think its main advantage is ease of use.  I never have to look to far to find a message I’ve sent, or a message I need to reply to. Conversations are listed very intuitively, and the label system just really makes it simple to organize all your emails.

2. Facebook.com

I don’t think I need to tell you about this one, its pretty simple… Connect with people, see what they’re doing, and annoy your friends with constant updates! (Stalking is pretty similar to be honest).  My favorite thing about Facebook has to be the ridiculous updates from people I can’t even really say I know that well anymore, oh and the occasional guy you hated in high school that turned out to be balled… thats always a treat.

3. Woot.com

You may not know about Woot… Its a shopping site, but with a sense of humor.  It posts a daily deal that usually appeals to a geeky guy such as myself… But also with a funny, unique, or down right ridiculous write up of the product. I’m somewhat of a news junky, I like seeing what annoying people are saying about other annoying people.  CNN accomplishes this quickly and painlessly, I can get my daily dose of ‘he said she said’ nonsense, and maybe learn a useless statistic or two!

5. Google Analyitics

Being a web designer, I’m always interested in knowing how my websites are doing- No one gets that info to me faster then Google Analyitics.

6. Google Adsense

A buck a day isn’t to bad, this site helps give me a false sense of accomplishment that is much needed after I realize I’ve spent an hour trying to get an image centered on a website page..

7. FreelanceFolder

Great set of articles, may of which provide useful in procrastinating without feeling like your doing nothing!  I do think I’ve been able to redo things on my website more then once because of suggestions on this site… Want to do your own freelancing? Check it out!
